September 2026 Walking Challenge: 615.3k Steps in a Competitive Group
I started September with a group of ladies from the gym and a number I did not think I could hold for a whole month. They are competitive, and I love that. I would check the board, see someone still ahead, and feel that pull to go again. It kept me pushing. It also kept me learning, every ordinary day, how to fit more movement into a life that was already full.
I stayed in it. StepUp closed the month at 615.3k total steps — 469 km, or 11.1 marathons. About 20,500 steps a day. When that screen came up, I had to look at it twice. On day one, that total felt made up.

What my days looked like
I broke the month into the same few things, and I did them even when I was tired of them.
Most days I ran somewhere between 5K and 10K. Easy when my legs were heavy, longer when I had it. Then I kept moving: the long way to the car, a lap while something cooked, on my feet instead of sitting the afternoon away. At night, if I was still short, I went back out for 15 or 20 minutes. That cleanup walk was rarely something I felt like doing. It was the moment I decided I still wanted to be in the group.
What I want to keep
The part I keep thinking about is the group. Someone else still moving meant I was not done with the day. I learned more on those quiet evenings than I did on the days that felt easy. I am keeping the run, and I am keeping the habit of just staying in motion. I am not ready to step away from people who pull this out of me. 🏃♀️
